Two-party System

Clinton: This N.A.F.T.A. thing seems like a great idea to me.
Bush: Hell yeah. Me too.
Clinton: Wow, we have so much in common. We should be friends.
Bush: That sounds awesome. We can turn our beds into bunk beds and then we’ll have so much more room for activities.
Clinton: Good thinking. C’mere and give me a hug.
Bush: Mmmm… You smell good. Is that a mango conditioner?
Clinton: Yes. My new intern loves it.

That other guy who was there: That idea sucks. Someone pay attention to me.

I know what you’re thinking – There are a lot of differences between the two parties. Things like gay rights, the second amendment, and the whole evolution vs. the Flintstonian theory. And you’re right, but what occurred to me then, and what I’ve seen time and again since, is that there is no difference in economic policy between a republican politician and their democratic counterpart. Sure, they talk a different talk, but what do they actually do that is so different? Much like Clinton and Bush in ‘92 regarding N.A.F.T.A. Obama and McCain practically fought over who liked the banking bailout more. Between 2009 and 2011 democrats held the presidency and a majority in both houses of congress. In that time they managed to give billions of dollars to the banking industry and military contractors (because they kept us in Iraq and Afghanistan and the rest of the world), they passed a financial reform bill that was the textbook definition of a paper tiger, and gave us health care reform that put a proverbial band-aid on a gunshot wound.

So when it comes to issues that are emotionally charged and can be debated until the cows come home (i.e. abortion) we have clear divisiveness and ideology, but when it comes to the bottom line – the issues that will really effect normal people on a day to day basis – things that will have an impact on interest rates and the job market – we have complete bi-partisanship. Even if that bi-partisanship comes in the form of faked surrender or underachievement, the result is the same. Sadly, it’s been going on for so long that it’s become cliche – the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Intestinal Blockage

There are many causes of intestinal blockage that can affect people. The blockage or obstruction can occur due to presence of an hernia or tumor. Apart from these, it can be due to presence of intestinal adhesion’s like fibrous tissue formed in the abdominal cavity, twisting of the intestine (volvulus), intussusception (intestine telescoping) or presence of an inflammatory bowel disease. These causes are called as mechanical obstruction of the small intestine.

Causes of intestinal blockage can also include paralytic ileus. This a condition where the intestines do not function normally. This can occur due to problems with the nerve or muscle problems. This may occur due to an abdominal surgery, pelvic surgery, muscle or nerve disorder, infection, intake of certain medications, etc.

Symptoms of a partial intestinal blockage causes may include twisting or narrowing of the intestine. In some causes it could occur due to presence of a kidney disease. Diverticulitis, obstruction due to presence of foreign body may also be one of the reasons for partial intestinal blockage symptoms.

How to Identify Symptoms of an Intestinal Obstruction

Partial intestinal blockage occurs when the passage of the bowel content is affected. However, the movement of the bowel content, that is, food and fluid is not completely blocked. The symptoms of a partial intestinal blockage occur gradually over weeks or even months. If you are wondering how to identify symptoms of an intestinal obstruction, then you need to spot the signs. One of the most obvious partial intestinal blockage symptoms is passing thin stools and chronic constipation. Let us go through the symptoms of a partial intestinal blockage in detail.

Abdominal Disorders
Partial intestinal blockage symptoms tend to be very vague. When there is an obstruction in the intestine, it leads to abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, bloating and distention.

Gay Marriage

posted in: Arguments (Tags: ) - No Comments

Argument #1
Proponents of gay marriages give one of the most fundamental arguments for gay marriage. When it comes to choice and individuality, we all have our own human rights. It should be an individual’s choice to marry someone of their wish. Any discrimination against a section of people with different sexual orientation seems to be a violation of human rights. No morality or law preaches society to force an individual to live a dual life, on others terms. Be it lesbianism or gay, everyone have their own rights.

Argument #2
Another factor that supports gay life and their marriages is that love must be the only reason to marry someone. As opposed to traditional marriages, half of which end up in divorces, what wrong would it be if a gay man marries his love. Marriage as an institution is not only procreating. It is just one dimension of marriage. Other factors like emotional security, acceptance, respect and love are also critical. If two people find all these virtues in their unification, there seems no reason to reject gay marriages, or for that matter, lesbian marriages.

Argument #3
Kids raised by lesbian and gay couples can find a better life instead of going through trauma of divorce, domestic violence or living in an orphanage. Given the high rate of divorce in traditional marriages, there seems not much weight when heterosexual couples criticize homosexual couples on grounds of being together. After all, people get married to live happily, share burdens and not to get divorced.

If gay marriages are allowed, even though the couples won’t be able to procreate, they can adopt babies. This can lead to decrease in number of orphans, at least to some extent. Moreover, a couple with respect for themselves, will raise healthy and confident individuals. Is there any reason why love and commitment of homosexual couples be looked with a different opinion than that of heterosexual couples? Won’t ending marriage discrimination bring more stronger families in the society.

Should Gay Marriage be Legal: Cons

Argument #1
A large section of society is still against gay marriages. One of the most prominent reasons given by people who’re anti-gay marriages is that, same sex marriages threat the institution of marriage and hence laws related to them. As per opponents of gay marriages, for most of the Americans, all across major world cultures, marriage has been defined to be a union of a male and a female, a husband and wife. These sexual unions have evolved to become standards for society cultures, communities, rules and laws. This marriage institution is unique, distinct and it must be respected. Giving life to new one’s and continuing the reproduction patterns is a perfect example of the role of marriage.

If marriage between gays and lesbians is allowed, it is opposed to meaning of marriage. Laws need to be changed and a complete over haul of the system is required. Well, if that is not a problem, anti-gay people fear that marriage will have no meaning if gay marriages are allowed. The reason being that marriage has some fixed definitions. While we love and care for many people, it is not that we can marry everyone. Commitment after all, comes in many forms. And if gay marriages are allowed, people can ask for laws regarding marrying more than one person at a time, without a divorce. Even that is a human right, inherently. And why only two people? There can be cases when people ask for laws wherein one can marry any number of people, with closed ones, relatives, etc. There is a huge possibility of this to happen, so say the opponents of gay marriages. The bottom line is that the people against these marriages are not disrespecting gay or same sex couples, it is just that “marriage” is an altogether different concept, adopted by some laws and rules in society. To argue that a relationship is not marriage, doesn’t mean that one is disrespecting it.

Moreover, since ages, or even when viewed inherently, the need of a mother and father is basic requirement for the growth of a child. Same sex couples may face huge problems in upbringing children. It is not possible for people who oppose gay or lesbian marriages to accept the fact that a child can be properly brought up without affection of a mother and protection of a father. This mere idea is challenging the basic structure of society. So what do you think, should gay marriage be legal? READ MORE

Death Penalty

Is Death Penalty Cruel and Unusual Punishment – Pro Arguments

Some people believe that purpose of the capital punishment is to send a right message to the society. Such harsh punishment implies that no grave crime will be tolerated and the guilty must be punished for his or her crime. In short, according to this pro death penalty argument, death penalty acts as a deterrent for society and prevents further crimes. According to some people murders committed in the rage of anger or in a drunken state can be still excluded from death penalty. But people who commit crime in the conscious state of mind have no right to live. If you analyze the last sentences of the criminals you would realize that they all were scared of dying. It proves that death is the most scary punishment they could be allotted with. And this point makes clear that death is one of the most scary things people fear. So other punishments, be it life imprisonment, etc. are milder for criminal minded people and hence death penalty is the only way to deteriorate their criminal motives. One of the other death penalty pros comes from victims and families of victims who believe that death penalty is the only justice they could get which is their right and not a privilege. If you think from their point of view, you would come across various emotional issues that would force you think that life for life is the ideal punishment.

Is Death Penalty Cruel and Unusual Punishment – Against Arguments

One of the biggest argument that anti death penalty people make is, is that death going to bring back the life of a victim, which is true. Whatever you do with the criminal, the victim has already suffered it all and gone probably. As someone rightly said that to take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, and not justice. One of the other argument against the death penalty is that there is no point in punishing a criminal with death penalty as most of the time they knew what they were doing was wrong and they also knew the punishment for it. The very fact that the criminals are aware of the grave consequences of serious crimes, they are probably ready to face death, which is one of the notable death penalty facts. According to anti death penalty philosophy, criminals need to be given a second chance to understand their mistake. They should be kept under government surveillance if they are really sorry for what they did. This is one of the strong reasons against capital punishment that could be considered in case of juvenile crimes or crimes committed under drug or alcohol influence. Iowa State Supreme Court Justice has put this thought in a simpler manner in 1840. It says, “Crime indicates a diseased mind in the same manner that sickness and pain do a diseased body. And as in one case we provide hospitals for the treatment of severe and contagious diseases, so in the other, prisons and asylums should be provided for similar reasons.” READ MORE
